I also played this as part of the Hagen54, and I believe it is the pinnacle of the three courses. Everything about it was spectacular. Towering dunes framed the fairways, beautifully maintained pathways guided you through the landscape, and the sense of grandeur extended to every detail, from the impressive clubhouse to the course presentation. It is hard to put into words just how good this experience was. I am already looking forward to returning and enjoying it all over again.

We started the day on the par-3 16th hole as part of a 54-hole loop. Our caddy, Luke, was not only great company but also incredibly helpful—especially on the blind shots and more strategic holes. At Royal St George’s, it feels like each hole is its own unique arena, as Luke described it. My favorite stretch came between holes 2 and 6. I even managed to find the only tree on the course on the par 3, third hole. The layout, elevation changes, and overall design make every hole distinct and memorable. The greens and tee boxes are in exceptional condition, truly world-class. It’s easy to see why this course is part of The Open rota.

Royal St George’s, consistently ranked as England’s number one course, is an exceptional test of links golf. From the opening tee beside the thatched starter’s hut, the course takes players on an exhilarating journey through undulating fairways, deep bunkering, and subtle greens. Coastal winds are a key part of the challenge here, influencing club selection and strategy throughout the round. Standout holes include the 4th, with its dramatic tee shot, and the 5th, which offers both beauty and bite in equal measure. The conditioning is first-class, and the layout demands focus from start to finish. The facilities match the quality of the course. The pro shop is superbly stocked with branded merchandise, the clubhouse exudes tradition, and service is impeccable. Post-round, the long-standing custom of jacket and tie dining adds to the sense of occasion. A must-play for any serious golfer visiting the UK.

Royal St George's is situated on the same stretch of coastline as Royal Cinque Ports Club and neighbouring Prince's Golf Club, both former Open Championship venues. Royal St George's was founded in 1887 in a setting of wild duneland. Many holes feature blind or partially blind shots, although the unfairness element has been reduced somewhat, after several 20th century modifications. The Royal St George's golf course also possesses the deepest bunker in championship golf, located on the fourth hole.
