Troon Links - Lochgreen

Mooie linksbaan naast de Royal Troon die je over het spoor kan zien liggen. De openingholes liggen allemaal naast mekaar waarnaar je per lus een andere kant op gaat. De holes zijn op hun eigen manier mooi en uitdagend. Sommige door de wind, anderen juist weer door bomen en rough. Leuke ervaring om te spelen voor een hele schappelijke prijs.

Very good course, I would go to say it’s the best course out of the Troon links courses, some work being done on a few holes which will be interesting to see how that looks once finished! Very enjoyable.

De baan ligt in een redelijk vlak terrein voor een links course. Toch is het wel een link ervaring door lay out. Fairways zijn wat eenvoudig maar de greens lagen er goed bij. In de omgeving liggen 3 courses bij elkaar. Het is voor het geld een leuk te spelen links course, alhoewel deze niet bij de kust ligt.

De gemeente baan op Troon bestaat uit 3x18 holes banen - wat een luxe. Ze beginnen alle 3 bij het clubhuis en gaan naar hole 1 allemaal een eigen richting op! Wij speelden Lochgreen - paralel aan de B baan van Royal Troon - zo te zien niet veel verschil muv de prijs! Wij hebben genoten van deze baan met veel afwisselende holes en voldoende uitdaging. Hole 18 is weer terug op de super fairway voor het clubhuis midden in het dorp Troon! Helaas ging het clubhuis ‘s middags rond 16:00 dicht maar gelukkig zijn er in het dorp andere theehuizen!

Lochgreens is a par 74 golfcourse which is very close to the Royal Troon. It's part of the Troon links golf courses which share the clubhouse and the area. At first the impression is a little bit awkward. You see golf holes which are situated on a small area. But don't be fooled. The course wanders through the landscape and you will have a very pleasant rond of golf.

The greens are not too big and they could be a little bit better in shape. But the community has plans to upgrade maintenance so there will be some improvement. The lay-out is very good and the holes are challenging. Long sometimes (you start with a 430 yard par-4) so good drives and long irons are needed. The fairways are OK. There was some rain lately so there was not much roll. But it didn't take away the fun we have had.

We did not play the other courses of Troon links but this one is very good, price wise also. GBP 35 for a round is very cheap (compared to the GBP 300+ for Royal Troon).

So when in the area, play this course.
