St. Augustines Golf Club

In the afternoon I made a, not planned, trip to this golf course. Did not have a tee-time so just went to the pro shop and was welcomed pleasantly . I was offered a twilight rate which was very cheap, compared to the (posh) courses on the coast. I could start right away. The course is a parkland course where the holes are not very long. The course itself is just 5200yrd par 69. It’s not too difficult and easy play. Some bunkers and some hazards but overall enjoyable. The condition of the course was OK. Fairways and greens were well kept but not in championship conditions. I could come round without my driver: Irons of the tee was in most cases enough. For good driver players some greens are reachable. The layout of the course is fine. But ask for a course map as some tee are difficult to find. If you fancy a relaxing round of golf and a nice drink afterwards, This is a fine place.

During the extended dry weather St Augustines course has suffered less than other local courses Because it is very low lying and hence has a relatively high water table, both fairways and greens and less scorched and brown. Golf pro shop and bar staff very pleasant and welcoming.

Freundliche Begrüßung im Proshop und nette Hilfe bei der Bewältigung der Kaffeemaschine im morgens um 10.00 Uhr noch nicht besetzten Clubhaus.

Ich habe den Platz nach einer regenreichen Nacht gespielt und er hatte sehr viele Stellen mit stehendem Wasser. Die Bahnen sind manchmal beschränkt und man muss mit den Abschlägen warten, bis alle anderen Spieler aus dem Gefahrenbereich heraus sind. Ansonsten sehr schöne alte Bäume als Begrenzng der Bahnen.

Die Abschläge waren ok, die Grüns auf Grund einer Airifizierung recht ungenau. Die Fairways sind recht breit, durften aber wegen des Regens nicht mit Trolleys befahren werden. Die waren nur im Rough zu bewegen. Gute Idee!

Schade, dass man die Trolleys nach der Runde nicht mit Wasser reinigen könnte. Das wäre bei dem großen Matschaufkommen sehr sinnvoll gewesen. Nur Pressluft reichte nicht zur Säuberung.

Ein Platz der im Sommer auch auf Grund des sehr guten Preises sicherlich Spaß macht.

This course isn't to difficult but nicely designed and nice parkland design. Members are very friendly. played here july 2012 with a Group trip. On 1 or 2 holes it is difficult to find out where the green is.
