Kilmacolm Golf Club

Kilmacolm Golf Club, near Glasgow, is a James Braid classic dating back to 1891. It’s not the longest course, but it demands precision, thoughtful club selection, and a variety of technical shots if you want to score well. The challenge is always fair, and the course has a wonderfully pleasant rhythm. I was fortunate to play with two members who guided me around, which was a big help. Knowing the right lines and strategies makes a difference here, as many holes reward smart play over power. A standout hole is stroke index 1 (I believe the 4th hole), which requires a very precise tee shot followed by an excellent approach. The fairway slopes heavily from left to right, adding another layer of difficulty. Kilmacolm is part of the James Braid Association, which means that members of other Braid courses can often play here at reduced rates or even free of charge. That adds extra appeal for golfers exploring Braid’s many designs. Another plus is its location, just a short drive from Glasgow Airport, making it a perfect course to begin or end a golfing trip. A delightful and rewarding experience.
