Nuremore Country Golf Club

Located one mile south of the picturesque town of Carrickmacross, Nuremore Hotel and Country Club is only one hour from both Bublin and Belfast. The 18 hole championship golf course is one of the most picturesque parkland courses in Ireland. Surrounded by lakes and hills it is bound to frustrate and delight in equal measures. Very nice course, well designed with great use of the natural undulations associated with the area. Some great holes eg 10,17,18 but all are individually good and characterful. Some drives have to be placed on the right side of the fairway to enable correct entry into the green and some drives have to be hit very well to clear hazards and allow you to hit the green in regulation. There are plenty of tree lined fairways so straight accurate driving is the key to a good score. If you hit the ball straight and long off the tee you will leave some short wedges and plenty of birdie opportunities. There are some nice slopes and undulations on the greens which make putting interesting and enjoyable. The tee boxes were poor enough and need to be addressed, the grass was sparse and too long and the rabbit burrowing was an issue. Was only in 1 bunker, but the sand was fine and playable. The staff were friendly and helpful and the resident pro Maurice Cassidy was very welcoming. Overall I was impressed with the course and enjoyed my experience. Like a lot of courses attached to hotels etc I'd say finances have dried up and mean that some things are slipping a bit due to lack of staff levels, but don't let that put you off, it should in fact have the opposite effect and courses like this with charm and character should be supported before they are lost from us.
