About The Berkshire Golf Club

Founded in 1928, The Berkshire Golf Club is home to two Herbert Fowler designed courses, both of which are widely regarded as amongst the best in the British Isles. The Berkshire is a traditional Members’ Club which warmly welcomes visiting golfers all year round to enjoy the beauty of its pine and heather lined courses, and to face the subtle challenges of Fowler’s superb traditional design. The Club welcomes visitors Monday to Friday throughout the year by prior arrangement through the Club's secretariat. It is also possible to obtain a tee-time at weekends and on public holidays after 12:00 pm. Visitors may require proof of a valid handicap certificate.

Red course 1/2
Holes: 18
The Red Course lies on higher ground than the Blue and runs through slightly more undulating terrain, with more dramatic elevation changes between tees and greens. It offers a unique assortment of holes, in that it has six par 3s, six par 4s and six par 5s. The six short holes have been described as the best collection in the country, and must rank

Blue course 2/2
Holes: 18
The Blue Course, unusually, starts with a par 3, but it is a magnificent start, and one which instantly confronts the golfer with the skill of Fowler’s design. After the challenges of the 1st have been dealt with, the front 9 offers some birdie opportunities, with two par 5s and three short par 4s. It is advisable to take advantage of these, as t

Set amongst towering pines which seemingly originated in Ascot, The Berkshire is one of the few clubs in GB&I which can boast of having two courses of high repute. Designed by Herbert Fowler in 1928, it is natural that some comparisons might be made with Walton Heath; Fowler’s other 36 hole master class of design in London environs. Other than generally being classed as h…

The Berkshire is surely one of the finest venues to play golf and why it doesn’t receive even more acclaim is a mystery to me. From the moment that one drives through the gates, this is a place which oozes quality. And the wow factor is heightened when the mist rises and, beyond the tranches of heather, the first green and its blue and white flag emerges.
