About Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club

If it didn't have a royal neighbour, Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club would enjoy a far wider reputation. It has many fine qualities that distinguish it from Porthcawl. Although nearby, Pyle & Kenfig possesses much higher dunes and deeper, disconcerting valleys in a layout that offers plenty of diversity. Originally mapped out in 1922 by H.S. Colt, large chunks of the course were requisitioned by the army in World War II after which it was decided to move seawards into dunesland that designer P. Mackenzie Ross described as a 'golfers paradise'. There are two loops of nine holes returning to the cosy clubhouse and the second half is regarded as the tougher of the two with the final three holes regarded as the hardest of the lot. Each over 400 yards and with a daunting tee shot towards deeply-bunkered problems, they promise a demanding finish that helps make a visit to the more fabled links down the road an incomplete experience if you don't include P&K in your itinerary.

Goed ontvangst, heel vriendelijk.

A pleasant links course with two distinct nines. The front nine is more open, and unusually returns to the clubhouse after nine holes. The back nine takes you among higher dunes and is more golf-like. The most interesting holes are 13 and 14.

Pyle and Kenfig Golf Course, affectionately known as 'P & K' with its lofty sand dunes hugging the South Wales coast of Porthcawl is situated in a wonderful stretch of golfing country. Glorious views and historic associations adorn this undulating course with its natural hazard of hillocks, valleys and towering dunes. However serious the game, time must be made to appreciate the panoramic views. The Bristol Channel, the Gower Peninsula, Sker House and the magnificent Welsh Mountains can all be seen from various points. Unusually for a links course, Pyle and Kenfig is laid out in two loops of nine. The original front nine is where to make a score because the back nine is a very stiff test, especially when the wind is up.
