Golf in Wales

Wales is a great golf destination with excellent value for money. It offers a staggering 850 miles of raw and rugged coastline, home to world-class links golf. Newport’s Celtic Manor Resort, venue of the Ryder Cup in 2010, is just one of 150+ courses - including some of the world’s top links courses like Royal Porthcawl and Royal St. David’s - all packed into a country that’s just 60 miles wide and 170 miles long.

Golf in Wales
The best Welsh golf courses are mainly located along the coast. There are a few hotspots - highly rated or well-known courses - in Wales; in North Wales the area north and west of Snowdonia National Park, in the south the best courses are dotted around Cardiff and Swansea. When visiting Wales for a golf break, the following top Welsh golf courses should be considered: Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, The Celtic Manor Resort, Nefyn & District Golf Club, Pennard Golf Club, Aberdovey Golf Club and Machynys Peninsula Golf & Country Club. The oldest golf club in Wales is Borth & Ynyslas Golf Club, which was founded in 1885. In 1945 the course was redesigned by Harry S Colt. Wales is a country with distinctive traditions, heritage and culture and with the lovely capital city of Cardiff. Wales offers rolling hills, dramatic mountains, hundreds of castles and a coast path that runs along the entire coastline of the country. Wales is often called the castle capital of the world. With over 600 sites remaining, Wales has more castles per square mile than any other country in Europe. Wales is well connected by air and sea. Cardiff Airport has both direct routes and more than 900 connecting destinations worldwide through hubs including Doha, Amsterdam Schiphol and Barcelona. There are several ferry crossings from Ireland to Wales each day and cruise ships dock at the Port of Holyhead on Anglesey almost every week between May and September.
