The Palmer in an earlier iteration as The Hyatt Coolum was once the home of the PGA Championship for a number of years. It retains many of the features that justified that choice. To my mind it is not a course for beginners. The are few holes where a 'safe shot' exists and many holes where water draws the eye if not the ball. Having said that, the challenge is rewarding and walking off with your handicap intact is one of life's golfing pleasures. I am perhaps biased as I walked off with 41 Stableford points on a day when the course was saturated after suffering torrential rains for a number of days. There are no real 'cons' about Palmer Coolum except possibly the ambiance. I first played the course in the days of the PGA and it had a "Leading Course But Friendly" feel to it. Since then, club membership has been cancelled and abandoned and the sense of playing within a club atmosphere has disappeared. It doesn't make the course any the less demanding and well worth a visit. The course staff are a professional and helpful crew. A point worth remembering is, use the club drop-off frames. The car park is a long walk from the club house. We were able to use the carts to return the clubs to cars after the game.

Palmer Coolum Resort Golf Course. Mt. Coolum. Sunshine Coast. Queensland.
15 minutes from Sunshine Coast Airport.
Ticked off another Australian Top 100 course today.
Fairways and greens were in good enough condition but the rough was like Oakmont, and looks like it hasn't been "maintained" for some time.
The layout is actually great, with amazing elevation and directional change, and the holes are well designed using excellent natural terrain to it's advantage.
This is all I'll report on here, it's much the same as Capricorn Resort, a shadow of it's former self, and someone or group with the right intentions should buy it and bring it back to life.
Fingers crossed.
Tys.
