Golfers’ Choice Rankings 2024

Running since 2013, when they featured only a handful of categories based in the Netherlands, the Golfers’ Choice Rankings have grown and improved every year. Now in their 12th edition, the Golfers’ Choice Rankings have become a benchmark in the golf industry and an announcement that both golfers and golf courses eagerly await.

As ever, the Golfers’ Choice Rankings are entirely based on ratings shared by golfers on Leadingcourses.com. This makes them the most transparent golf course rankings in the world of golf.

Which courses have the best greens and who serves the best food? Where can you find the most breathtaking scenery and where does your green fee stretch the furthest? Which golf clubs offer the best overall experience?

The Golfers' Choice Rankings consist of 11 categories spread over 19 countries – 15 in Europe, 2 in Africa, 1 in Asia and 1 in South America. The categories include:

• Best Maintenance
• Best Price-Quality
• Best Facilities
• Best Restaurant
• Best Surroundings
• Best Hospitality
• Best 9-Hole Golf Club
• Best Par-3 Golf Course
• Best 18-hole Golf Club
• Best Golf Course
• Most Improved Golf Club (new for 2024)

A quick note on the difference between Best Golf Course and Best Golf Club, two of our most important categories. 

The Best Golf Club category is based on a weighted average of all nine components scored in a review, including the course, maintenance, facilities and restaurant. The Best Golf Course category is based solely on the course component of the review scores. The course has a high weighting in the overall club score, but the outcomes are often different.

And a warm welcome to our newest category: Most Improved – because at Leading Courses we respect nothing more than a club that puts in the effort to improve its rating. This category compares clubs’ 2022 and 2023 average review scores and is available for Belgium, France, Portugal, Spain and The Netherlands.

If the 2024 Golfers’ Choice Rankings could be summed up in one word, it would be ‘change’ – there’s been a lot of movement at the top. In some categories, not a single club in the top 10 is in the same position as last year.

The reason is simple: the scores are tightly packed and clubs work hard to improve their Leading Courses ratings (some even make components of their rating a KPI!).

This is exactly what we strive for at Leading Courses: an accurate and up-to-date reflection of a club’s rating, whereby even minor updates to the course or service have an effect.

We also made an important change to the review algorithm, making recent reviews more relevant than ever. Read more about the algorithm update here.
