Exploring the Golfing Gems of Lagos

Espiche Golf, located in the western part of the Algarve, is a remarkable and unique destination that offers an exceptional golfing experience. The course boasts perfect greens that remain pristine, thanks to their ability to absorb saltwater and resist pitch marks. The owner shared the fascinating story behind these exceptional greens, highlighting the unique root structure of the grass.

The ambience and climate at Espiche Golf differ from other courses in the region, evoking a South American feel. The staff are friendly and accommodating, allowing for a memorable experience. The course layout presents challenges with changes in elevation and strategically placed blind shots, making familiarity beneficial. Golfers are treated to stunning views from every angle as the course is designed in two loops around the elevated clubhouse. 

My time at Boavista was nothing short of fantastic! I achieved my personal best score on this remarkable course. Boavista is more than just a golf course; it is a vibrant community with various types of homes and accommodations. The course itself features spectacular holes, including some with ravines, grand greens, and enticing par-4s that tempt players to go for it from the tee.

Additionally, the course was in impeccable condition, with perfectly manicured fairways that provided ideal lies for every shot. If I were to mention one area for improvement, it would be the bunkers, as some may contain a few stones and occasionally lack sufficient sand. However, as dedicated golfers, we always aim to avoid the bunkers altogether! 

The atmosphere at Palmares is simply outstanding! The amazing views from the clubhouse alone make the trip to this golfing paradise worthwhile. Moreover, the clubhouse itself is a sight to behold, boasting unparalleled beauty. After taking in all this splendour, I played on the Praia - Alvor loop. The Praia course is a classic links-style layout, featuring strategic areas where knowing where to miss is key.

The maintenance on this loop was tailored to preserve the authentic links-style characteristics, with firm and somewhat dry conditions. This added an extra layer to the experience and certainly did not detract from the enjoyment. The Alvor course started off more subtly, with the initial three holes being less extraordinary. However, from the fourth hole onwards, breathtaking views of Alvor unfolded, leading to a series of magnificent holes overlooking the lagoon and Alvor itself. 

Ponte da Piedade, near Lagos in the Algarve, Portugal, is a natural wonder that surprises visitors with its stunning rock formations, towering cliffs, and crystal-clear waters.
