Fantastic reviews, but unknown by the public. Be the first to discover these hidden gems in Lazio.
Well i returned, just over a week later and my previous review below. Once again a fantastic welcome and hospitality, while playing this time at dawn on a fresh winters morning (no thunderstorm this time), the course really came alive. I will hopefully play again when visiting curing the summer months, to see how the course is at that time of year. Once again, a hidden gem for winter golf in Lazio, just 5 minutes from Campino Airport.
I played here in late December and it was my first experience of golfing in Italy, while visiting family in the region. I have to say that the welcome and hospitality were superb. Francesca on reception spoke very good English and was fantastic at organising my booking over the phone and providing instructions upon my arrival. The clubhouse has a villa feel to it but wonferfully cosy with a well stocked bar and cafe, along with practice facilities such as a putting green and driving range (near the 2nd tee). The course was in decent shape for late December and we actually had a thunderstorm while playing, which thankfully moved on quickly. Still, i was encouraged to hear the horns sound as a first warning and then again to signal play may resume. The track is technical as there are some trees and some serious elevation changes from approach shots to the greens, but it's not unfair. Despite my high handicap i didn't feel the course was beyond me at all. The condition was what you'd expect for a winder parkland course in December, but with the greenfee of 30euros, i was more than happy with the experience. The surrounding landscape and hills are a wonder, especially from the higher positions on the course. Situated 5 minutes from Campino Airport, this is a real hidden gem that is not beyond the abilities of the average golfer. I will definitely return.
I played early on a fresh December morning with the morning dew and mist still hanging low on the course. Maybe not the typical setting for a mediterranean golf course, but was one that i thoroughly enjoyed. A beautiful parkland course, with wide fairways and unique experiences all round. The course was the venue for the 2002 Italian Open and even in December 2020 it was superbly maintained, despite the winter season. The price of 70euros was also more than fair for the quality and heritage of the place - though i suspect it's more expensive during the peak season. The clubhouse is nice, slightly dated, especially on the outside, but warm and comfortable. The welcome was also friendly, and while I didn't encounter a great deal of english speaking, the staff were helpful and made an effort with my broken Italian and their broken English. A treat if you're visiting the Lazio region.
