Athenry Golf Club

Greatly maintained golf club. Has all the facilities around the club house - driving range, putting, pitching greens are of super quality. The clubhouse is relatively modest, but ticks all boxes and the view from the reataurant is fabulous. The course itself is very well maintained, although sustaining very significant damage during last year winter storm which felled many trees and removed natural hazard on many holes. They were all cleared, but baren patches now remain. But that is mother nature - little you can do about it. The fairways and greens are of the highest quality, bunkers with dry, fine sand. The layout of the front nine is a bit unnatural and zigzaging, but with excellent signage, so no confusion. The back nine are much more enjoyable. Basically, there are no water hazards, but the design of individual holes is still great, mainly due to strategic bunkering and the remaining trees.

Op 21 augustus 2024 gespeeld op Athenry, onze ervaring de beste allround golfclub in de omgeving van Kinvara. Aankomst in restaurant, vriendelijke jonge bediening, goede koffie, leuke shop met veel spullen. Trollers worden voor ons uit het rek gehaald, en met een muntje op weg naar de gedateerde driving range, naar ala men heeft er tenminste een hier. Range ballen een beetje mixje, maar lekker ingeslagen op de teeboxen van hole 1. Deze baan is een plaatje, mooie lay out, lange par 4s, afwisselend, hier een daar een dogleg. Teeboxen zien er goed uit, fairways en greens ook. Veel bunkers maar consistent qua zand. Wij speelden met ZW5-6, dan is ie best pittig van de backtees. Kortom fijn gespeeld en genoten. Terug in het clubhuis, is er een keuken open voor wie iets wil eten, wij hebben slechts een drankje genuttigd en toen weer huiswaarts. Elke woensdag is hier open dag en betaal je maar 25 euro voor je rondje, dat is echt heel weinig voor zo’n baan. Een must play!

Great clubhouse and good food. Nothing amazing about the course but it's a good parkland course. Enjoying day.
