About Cardigan Golf Club

One of the most startling of the unsung courses of Wales is to be found high on a hill overlooking the Teifi Estuary at Gwbert, two miles from the historic town of Cardigan. You don't have to take a Welshman's word for it. Furman Bisher of the Atlanta Journal, doyen of American golf writers, came to Wales in 1993 to give Royal Porthcawl the once over. He had never been to Wales before and was so impressed he changed his plans so that he and his wife could do a ten-day tour. The game he played at Cardigan was extolled to his readers as one of the highlights: "With the possible exception of Pebble Beach, the view from the top of the Cardigan course is the finest I've seen anywhere in golf". Such unsolicited testimonials enabled the club to enter its centenary year of 1995 in good heart. The three finishing holes through bracken and linksland are particularly enjoyable and the sight from the tee of the short 16th is worth framing. In August they stage a match between members and any visitor who cares to turn up. The visitors don't often win but the sing-song in the evening is worth the beating.

One of the other very dry courses in the summer of 2025. The course zigzags across a large hill overlooking the sea. The highest point is the 8th green and the subsequent 9th tee. Then it starts to descend. The most interesting hole is probably the 16th, a par 3 played downhill and superbly protected by literally historic bunkers.

You have to book and pay online in advance through the club's site here, and that is very easy.

We didn't find it a difficult course to play. Lots of slopes where course management is important. Ball in the rough usually means you lose the ball. Beware of steep slopes around several greens; your ball will roll right back off the green. Some nice views.

One of my greatest experiences.

Such a nice welcome of the golfpro.

Course is located on a beautiful spot with stunning views.

Very challenging and fun to play.

Talking about fun, try the 9 holes par 3 near the hotel, just another tip from the very friendly pro of the Cardigan GC.

Thanks very much for playing.

Course flag18 holes

Founded by local gentry in 1895 as a nine-hole course, after several transformations over the last 125 years, it now features 18 holes and measures 6,455 yards off the back tees. Predominantly a links course, at first sight it seems a relatively easy test of golf, but with sea breezes, the land undulating towards the coast and true but testing greens, there are many scorecards that tell a different story.
