It's always exciting to check out the new golf courses each year. Even though there are lots of golf courses all over the world, we still get pumped about new ones opening up. In this article, we'll highlight some new golf courses in Europe and beyond in 2024. Make sure to put them on your bucket list - a great feature of Leading Courses - so that you'll not forget which courses to tick off in 2024! It's always quite challenging to come up with the list, because often there are many unknowns, especially the exact opening date. If there were too many uncertainties, we decided not to put them on this list (although we will still mention them).

New European golf courses to put on your list in 2024

Quite surprisingly only a few European golf courses will open their doors in 2024. This might be the case because quite a few already opened their doors in 2023 like Comporta Dunes, Ombria Resort and Bois d’Arlon Golf and Resort. Herdade do Pinheirinho might be the most interesting course opening its doors, as it is located very close to Comporta Dunes. Together with Troia Golf, Quinta do Peru and CostaTerra this region just below Lisbon might become a very good alternative for the Algarve.

Herdade do Pinheirinho - Portugal 🇵🇹

Herdade do Pinheirinho - already completed in 2012 by Jorge Santana da Silva - will finally open for play on Portugal’s Costa Azul (Blue Coast) in 2024. A few Leading Courses ambassadors already managed to play the course when it was still closed and they were quite impressed. Check their reviews about Herdade do Pinhierinho!

Back 9 of LaFinca Golf - Spain 🇪🇸

LaFinca Golf - not be confused with La Finca Resort or Finca Cortesin - is a golf course close to Madrid, just 15 minutes from the city centre. The new 18 holes par 72 championship course is designed by Stirling & Martin and was led by two former Pete Dye associates – American Blake Stirling and Spaniard Marco Martin. In 2024 the back 9 will officially be opened for the public.

Bois d’Arlon Golf and Resort - Belgium 🇧🇪

The Bois d'Arlon Golf and Resort, a project developed by Luxembourg property investor Roby Schintgen, was expected to open in 2023, but will now open in April 2024. It includes an 18-hole heathland course - designed by Stuart Hallett - as well as a nine-hole parkland course by Jonathan Davison.

Ury Estate - Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The Ury Estate boasts a Jack Nicklaus-designed signature championship golf course and the sensitively restored historic Ury Castle. Not a lot is known about this development and it seems they like to keep it that way. So secrecy is the trump card here. The opening is planned for the end of 2024.

Exciting new golf courses outside Europe opening their doors in 2024!

It's striking that most of the new golf courses outside of Europe are to be found in the USA. There are however also a few amazing golf courses opening their doors in other countries, like Australia (Seven Mile Beach), Vietnam (Royal Long An Golf) and South Africa (Zimbali Lakes). We did not include a few courses like Sindalah Island Golf Club in Saudi Arabia (operated by IMG), Kinsale Golf Club (Naples), the 9-hole reversible course at Palmetto Bluff, Atlantic Fields (Florida), Warmouth Sands Golf Course (Georgia) or the Soleta Golf Club in Florida. Sometimes a website is still missing and in general there are too many unknowns, especially about when they will be opening for play.

Make sure to put a few of them on your bucket list on Leading Courses (you only need a free account)!

7 Mile Beach - Australia (Tasmania) 🇦🇺

Seven Mile Beach is a public golf course currently under construction just 20 minutes from Hobart. The golf club is expected to open in 2024. It is a world-class design located on a great location: the beautiful Seven Mile Beach Peninsula.

GrayBull - USA (Nebraska) 🇺🇸

GrayBull is part of the Dormie Network and the aim is to be the ultimate place for a stay-and-play golf holiday. The GrayBull golf course is designed by David McLay Kidd and is set in the Sandhills of Nebraska. Several cottages will be built to accommodate 60 guests. An exact opening date is not know yet, but it will definitely be in 2024.

Course No 10 at Pinehurst Resort - USA (North Carolina) 🇺🇸

No. 10 is Pinehurst’s first new course in nearly three decades and it will open officialy on April 3rd in 2024. Tom Doak’s new design will feature native wiregrass, a sweeping landscape and rolling hills. Midway through the course, it also takes advantage of rugged dunes carved out by mining operations around the turn of the 20th century. The result is a spectacular golf course with 75 feet of elevation change.

Zimbali Lakes Resort - South Africa 🇿🇦

Zimbalie Lakes is designed by Golf Data and Zimbali Lakes will help to promote an already strong golf offering north of Durban. Zimbali Lakes is a classic design with 10 par 4s and four par 3s and par 5s. The golf course will offer views of the ocean, the Tongaat River and the rolling hills inland. The course is expected to be ready in September 2024, but will open for play in December 2024.

Royal Long An Golf & Villas - Vietnam 🇻🇳

Royal Long An Golf & Villas, located in Long An – a satellite city west of Ho Chi Minh City, is a large complex that will offer a 27-hole golf course, some resort villas, and a nice selection of hotels. The 27-hole golf course - designed by Nick Faldo - is considered to be the heart of the project. In 2024 the 18-hole course will be opened for play.

Sedge Valley at Sand Valley Resort - USA (Wisconson) 🇺🇸

Sand Valley’s newest golf course, a Tom Doak design, draws on the great heathland and links courses of London and the English coast. Sedge Valley is slated for a 2024 opening, but no definite date has been given yet.

Cabot Citrus Farms - USA (Florida) 🇺🇸

Cabot Citrus Farms - formerly known as World Woods - will have a soft launch opening in January 2024 ahead of a September 2024 grand opening. At this new Floridian golf destination golfers will be able to play two 18-hole courses - The Roost and Karoo - and two short courses - The Squeeze and The Wedge.

Wohali - USA (Utah) 🇺🇸

Wohali is a luxury community of timeless modern-mountain design with a memorable golf course placed in Eagle Canyon that’s already been tapped to be among the best in not only the state but the entire country and world as well. Wohali has a 19th hole to declare a victor should your round end in a tie. This short par three on the edge of the lake will be the perfect ending to the round.

Saltleaf Golf Preserve - USA (Florida) 🇺🇸

Saltleaf Golf Preserve is already open for play on the site of the former Raptor Bay Golf Club. Saltleaf offers two golf courses: The 18-hole Preserve Course and the 9-hole par 3 Leaf Course, designed by Raymond Floyd. Saltleaf Golf Preserve is managed by Troon.

The Cardinal at Saint John's Resort - USA (Michigan) 🇺🇸

Their 27 hole course is currently revamped into a 18-hole championship course. An exciting Par 3 course and a natural grass putting course will be added as well. The Cardinal will open in the spring (or summer) of 2024.

Doon Brae Short Course at The Highlands Boyne Golf - USA (Michigan) 🇺🇸

This new short course is designed to first and foremost be fun. The course will feature downhill, flat, uphill and sidehill fairway lies. Two to three fairway options are available for each hole and you can be creative with your tee shot placement. Doon Brae is expected to open in the summer of 2024.

Shorty's at Bandon Dunes Resort - USA (Oregon) 🇺🇸

This new par 3 golf course, created by Rod Whitman, Dave Axland, and Keith Cutten, is called Shorty Dow's in memory of the late Shorty Dow, who unofficially called himself the "mayor, governor, and sheriff" of Bandon Dunes. Similar to his personality, the course will have a unique and unusual layout with 19 holes. It is located between the first hole of Bandon Trails (one of the resort's five 18-hole courses) and the ocean. Shorty's is scheduled to open in April 2024.

The Keep at McLemore Club - USA (Georgia) 🇺🇸

Located along the eastern cliff edge of Lookout Mountain, The Keep is designed as a walkable, mountaintop golf experience designed by Bill Bergin and Rees Jones. The Keep promises to be one of the most scenic and enjoyable golf courses to play in the southeast and is scheduled to open in Spring 2024.

Old Bridge Golf Club - USA (New Jersey) 🇺🇸
