Golf in England
Although many golf tourists flock to Scotland and Ireland, England does have some of the best golf courses in the world and is often host to major golf tournaments, like the European Tour. Also many World Golf Championships are played in England and of course a few golf courses are hosts for The Open Championship, the British Major. In England you will find a wide variety of golf courses, from challenging links courses to picturesque park golf courses. Golf has quite a long history in England. According to Blackheath Golf Club it was formally instituted in 1608, but Royal North Devon was formed in 1864 and remains the oldest course in England still playing along its original fairways. Several famous English golf clubs are Royal St. Georges, Royal Birkdale, Sunningdale, Swinley Forest, Woodhall Spa and Woburn. But England has over 1,800 golf courses to choose from, most of them are really worth a visit! Some hotspots in England for a golftrip are the coast of Kent, the coast running from Blackpool to Liverpool, the area south west of London (Ascot and Woking), the Cornwall coast and the area near Bournemouth and Poole. From its legendary landmarks and bustling cities to its rolling emerald hills, England is an unmissable country of contrasts. London is a must when visiting England, but if you love art make sure to visit Liverpool’s dynamic art scene. If you are more into nature, then Cornwall’s sun-drenched beaches, Kent's fruit-growing orchards or the mysterious Stonehenge are definitely worth a visit. Getting to England is not a real problem. London has six major airports: London City, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Luton, London Stansted and London Southend. Other large airports in England are Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Newcastle. And since 1994 you can also travel to England via the Channel Tunnel.

Sunningdale Golf Club
Where do I start? First of all I'm a great fan of Harry Colt courses, the one I play the most is De Pan in Utrecht, The Netherlands that course is squeezed into about 50 hectares, the courses at Sunningdale absolutely not. Maybe this is one of the most impressive features of this club, the huge amount of space and quiteness these courses are situated. The design of the Ne…

Royal North Devon Golf Club
A flying bat, a zombie and 500 sheep! Royal North Devon must be England's oldest and arguably most eccentric golf course. I had heard several negative reports prior to our visit to Westward Ho! (one of only two towns in the world with an exclamation mark in their names) from those who thought the course was too raw but I have to say we loved our visit. This is largely…

Sunningdale Golf Club
I wanted to play Sunningdale for a long time and today I could play both courses. I only can say than waiting so long was really worth. One of the best places I’ve been playing golf. Particullary in love with the Old Course, but The New is also sooooo good and maybe more challenging. Good firm greens in a good speed, perfectly shaped bunkers... nothing bad to say abou…

Royal North Devon Golf Club
Played Royal North Devon on a sunny windy day in June. As stated before in other reviews RND is the oldest (1864) club in England. This is clearly shown in the clubhouse what has been turned in to a golf museum. I was most impressed by the gentlemens locker room with beautiful old(I guess original) dark wood lockers. The course it self peaks a bit to early in my opinion…
