Devon

Devon also known as Devonshire is a county in the South West of England, reaching from the Bristol Channel in the north to the English Channel in the south. The north and south coasts of Devon each have both cliffs and sandy shores and the county's bays are dotted with seaside resorts, fishing towns and ports. The inland terrain is rural, generally hilly and scarcely populated. Devon offers many great golf courses - mainly located near the coast and in the Dartmoor National Park.

In the beautiful Devonshire moorland countryside is this 18 hole William Herbert Fowler golf course design. Cleverly utilising the naturally occurring tin mines of old as unsuspecting hollows and mounds to catch out even the best of golfers. With vista views over Dartmoor and Cornwall playing Yelverton in Summer 2019 was a delight. Herbert Fowler was best known as a c…

On the one hand, this course has a glorious location with clifftop views to die for. On the other hand, one could say it's steep and windswept. One way or another, it'll certainly take your breath away. A nicely maintained course with a warm welcome for visitors at the club. Quiet when I played but no doubt dependant on the weather and the holiday season in this lovely pa…

Visited for a 3 night 2 round break earlier this week and was amazed to find the course in such fantastic condition considering that during the previous week over 2" of water had fallen on this part of Devon! All staff wonderfully efficient an welcoming, so it was a real pleasure to play the course.

On the saddle of the Moors with great views. Hard to lose a ball, unless you're very unlucky. Nice and different and would recommend playing here.

Kigbeare Golf Course

This is one of the worst designed courses I have ever played - Impossible to walk, buggy needed, many blind and or impossible holes - only played the Kigbeare course, none of the others so review is solely fot that one.

Sand based course which plays well on most holes through the winter. Par 69. A few shared fairways. Some great views up the Exe estuary.

Lovely golf course not far from Plymouth. A couple of quirky holes which need to be played a few times to get a good score.

Play golf in Devon

Royal North Devon at Westward Ho! was founded in 1864 and is the oldest golf course in Devon and in entire England. It is regarded as the St. Andrews of the south. Other well-known golf clubs in Devon are the following: Saunton Golf Club, Royal North Devon Golf Club, East Devon and Bovey Castle Golf. Most of the better Devon golf courses are located along the south coast - also known as the Jurassic Coast - from Plymouth to Exmouth. There are also some good courses in the Dartmoor National Park area. The diverse county of Devon has everything from the bustling cities of Plymouth and Exeter, to the varied coastlines of the Jurassic Coast in the east, the AONB in the North and the English Riviera with its palm trees and abundance of family friendly holiday resorts in the south. Exeter Airport is the main international airport serving Devon and Cornwall. Great Western Railway also operates journeys to Devon from over 270 destinations by train. Direct, high-speed services from Paddington stop at Tiverton, Exeter St. Davids, Newton Abbot, Totnes and Plymouth.
