Golf in Hampshire

Hampshire is a county in South East England along the English Channel coast. It's main cities are Southampton and Portsmouth. Hampshire has many mostly south-flowing rivers. There are areas of downland and marsh and two national parks: the New Forest, and part of the South Downs. Bramshaw Golf Club in Lyndhurst is Hampshire's oldest golf course, dating back to the 1860s.

Golf in Hampshire
Hampshire offers golfers quite a varied selection of golf courses, from links courses, classic heathland courses like Liphook, clifftop courses along the coast and parkland and woodland courses like the New Forest course at Brokenhurst Manor. The best Hamsphire golf courses are Liphook Golf Club, Hayling Golf Club, Blackmoor and Stoneham. The highest density of top courses in Hampshire can be found around Winchester, in the New Forest and South Downs National Park. Hampshire is just an hour from London and its excellent transport links make it an easy destination to reach. There are frequent ferries to the Isle of Wight from Lymington, Southampton and Portsmouth while Southampton is home port to famous cruise liners such as Queen Mary 2. Portsmouth has ferry links with France and Spain and Southampton Airport provides easy access to Europe. Note: The Isle of Wight is a separate county on Leadingcourses, so no courses of that island are shown in Hampshire.

Meon Valley Hotel, Golf & Country Club
Very much a hotel/golf venue for the organised group market. It was a Marriott when I last played but now I believe it's under the Britannia banner. The course is great, a nice parkland/woodland setting nicely maintained and an enjoyable challenge. I don't want to be sued by a large hotel chain but my experience of Britannia hotels has been 'mixed' in the past so I may no…

Prachtige parkbaan met mooie fairways en greens. Jammer dat het erg nat was door de vele regen van de afgelopen dagen. Zeer de moeite waard voor een greenfee van 25,00 pond.

Liphook Golf Club
Greens are always in excellent condition. Many interesting holes and a good maxim is that position not length is the key to a good score; if you end up in the abundant heather, take your medicine and move on! Yes the road isn't ideal - and the crossing from 14 to 15 is a health and safety nightmare (please cross where requested and don't try to cut corners!) - but its saf…

South Winchester Golf Club
A very decent course with a ‘links-type’ feel to it. The greens in particular were in great condition and generally things were nicely set up and well maintained. The pro shop seems to have been temporarily squeezed into the bar area but presumably will move back to its own space in due course. Located just outside Winchester, there’s a traditional feel to this club and t…
