Golf in Hampshire

Hampshire is a county in South East England along the English Channel coast. It's main cities are Southampton and Portsmouth. Hampshire has many mostly south-flowing rivers. Golf in Hampshire
Hampshire offers golfers quite a varied selection of golf courses, from links courses, classic heathland courses like Liphook, clifftop courses along the coast and parkland and woodland courses like the New Forest course at Brokenhurst Manor. The best Hamsphire golf courses are Liphook Golf Club, Hayling Golf Club, Blackmoor and Stoneham. The highest density of top courses in Hampshire can be found around Winchester, in the New Forest and South Downs National Park. Hampshire is just an hour from London and its excellent transport links make it an easy destination to reach. There are frequent ferries to the Isle of Wight from Lymington, Southampton and Portsmouth while Southampton is home port to famous cruise liners such as Queen Mary 2. Portsmouth has ferry links with France and Spain and Southampton Airport provides easy access to Europe. Note: The Isle of Wight is a separate county on Leadingcourses, so no courses of that island are shown in Hampshire.

Hayling Golf Club
It just had to be hailing in Hayling. I don't know if there is a place called Sunshine, Rain or Snow, never mind golf courses there, so I presume I will never again get the chance to match the weather with a venue. Fortunately, the intervention of icy droplets on our round at one of England's unsung gems was temporary and, despite a bit more rain and strong wind throu…

Bramshaw Golf Club
Golf has been played at Bramshaw for many generations now, with the older Forest course claiming to be the oldest course in Hampshire (1865). The Manor course is, in comparison a youngster, having only been open since the 1970s. The Manor course and Clubhouse are adjacent to each other, with the Forest course a short drive away into the wilds of the New Forest. Back at th…

Hayling Golf Club
The majority of Hayling is predominantly flat, accentuated by subtle undulations and strategically placed bunkers. A notable exception is the 13th hole, where a tee shot to a fairway is situated atop a dune. Following that, golfers are challenged with a dive down to a green guarded by an out-of-bounds area at the back. I played this hole cautiously, haunted by the thought…

Stoneham Golf Club
Ah, Willie Park Jr … Undulations and historic landscapes. Mature trees funnel you along cascading fairways, past purple fringed sand traps to large, tiered and welcoming greens. Stoneham is a sleeping giant. Many other rankings place Stoneham higher than that of the 2019 Golf World List (my list). Quite rightly so. The routing at Stoneham is a true point of interest in…
