A classic links designed in 1947 by Mackenzie Ross — the same architect who rebuilt Ailsa at Turnberry after the war. Wide, honest and surrounded by a natural environment that on quiet weekdays you have entirely to yourself. Powfoot Golf Club and Portpatrick Dunskey Golf Club are two other courses well worth a visit. Dumfries and Galloway is compact and easy to drive from Glasgow or the border regions of northern England. The climate is mild by Scottish standards — the coast catches the warmth of the Gulf Stream, making the region pleasantly playable in spring and autumn as well.
